Here are two very useful websites.
KickYouTube
This website helps you download YouTube videos. When you find a YouTube video that you want to download, just insert the word "Kick" before YouTube in the URL (change www.youtube.com/adfasdf to www.kickyoutube.com/asfasf). This will take you to a new website. Select your file format and click download.
ZamZar
This website service converts file format types for you. You can either enter a URL or upload a file. Zamzar will e-mail you the converted file. Note - the free version can take quite a while (24 hours +).

I use realplayer for downloading and converting internet video formats. It isn't the speedist process but works well.
Using realplayer, I can download files, convert them to either the MPEG-4 or H.264 codecs and put them into iTunes. From there I can put them into a playlist on my Ipod and then in class I can play and pause through the series. It also works great if a video is more then one part on youtube. It will play them semlessly in the playlist. Free download for realplayer: http://www.real.com/

I tried kickyoutube and my computer never loaded the taskbar at the top indicating what form I wanted to download the file to. I then tried Zamzar and when I downloaded it and it was confirmed by e-mail, it only came through as audio. What should I be downloading the file as to ensure I get both audio and video from youtube downloaded?

If you are using Zamzar, you want to make sure to convert to either .mp4, .mov (Mac Quicktime), or .wmz (Windows Media Player)

Tried kickyoutube and was required to download Xvid codec. Not digging that. However, DownloadHelper plugin for firefox (and probably others) will allow downloads in .mp4 or .flv, and your choice of resolutions.
